Rob, the school principal and Chief Instructor, loves anything at all involving the sea. At 40, he is a RYA/MCA commercially endorsed Ocean Yachtmaster, Yachtmaster Instructor and Yachtmaster Examiner for the RYA. He is the one responsible for the quality of our training and standards.
Alongside actively teaching every sail cruising course within the RYA syllabus, he also teaches Sea Survival, Diesel Engine Maintenance and Radar as one day RYA courses.
Rob has as much enthusiasm as you can handle whilst being an excellent and patient instructor with empathy for those new to the sport. His feedback from students is incredible. He is always keen to develop new ideas and to search out new areas and find exciting locations to explore and enjoy. An avid racer too, Rob has an engineering background and this knowledge and ability is extremely valuable in keeping our boats as safe and well maintained as possible meaning you don’t have to worry about it. Whilst he's not sailing, he's err.. sailing! From radio controlled Marblehead class model yachts to his beloved 1953 Firefly Dinghy, he's never too far from the water.
He quotes "everything we do here is driven by passion. Our focus is not on numbers but on providing the best possible training aboard a standard and quality of yacht only normally found in the private sector. It's obvious to see the results from the minute students arrive to the time they leave. Being the best is what drives us, not being the biggest"
Anything sailing (climbing, cycling, surfing etc etc), ask him - he’s the guru.
Jules, the front person for our company is also an RYA/MCA commercially endorsed Yachtmaster and active Cruising and Shorebased Instructor. She also teaches SRC (VHF Radio) as an RYA one day course.
She shares Rob’s love of the sea and will join in out on the water when business allows. Jules is ideally placed to advise on not only courses but also to fully answer any questions or queries that you may have. Ask her anything with respect to training or your personal welfare while you’re with us and you will be guaranteed a timely, full and meaningful answer. Jules will help you with any aspect of your booking along the way - from first contact to your farewell, she will do all she can to ensure your needs are met and any special requirements are catered for. Specific dietary requirements or special travel arrangements are no problem at all and we have successfully catered for Vegetarians, Vegans, Celiac sufferers, Halal, diabetics or even just for simple taste issues such as you don't like vinegar!
Jules has often been known to send the boat off with a homemade meal or delicious cake which always go down tremendously well. I dare you to ask her for something!
Patrick Van Der Zijden, 41, is a fully qualified and commercially endorsed RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Instructor.
He has been a regular instructor for rusailing and has been with us for three years now. He has a patient and very relaxed manner with students thus allowing them to enjoy the sailing and get the very most from their training time with him. Consistently good feedback keeps him a very valued member of the team. Patrick also has qualifications and interests in the power/motor cruising sector so is perfectly placed to aid anyone with dual interests. Like Rob, Patrick has his own sailing dinghy and the two of them can sometimes be seen racing around the bay of Lagos together.
Watch him with the Mayonnaise though – there’ll be none left for anybody else!
Sarah is a fully qualified and commercially endorsed RYA/MCA Cruising Instructor currently working towards her Yachtmaster Instructors qualification.
Having spent four weeks with us during 2009 completing her Yachtmaster Offshore Preparation and Exam and then Cruising instructor course, Sarah is firmly in our camp. Since qualifying, she has been working along the south coast of England and has picked up a wealth of sailing and training experience which now translates to mean she is a very capable instructor in her own right. Very popular with everyone, Sarah is particularly well placed for ‘all girl’ bookings and those new to the sport.
Hers is a very bright boat to be on!
Maciek Lech (Magic to us!) helps out with the getting the boats ready over the weekend and with general maintenance. He holds a Polish Coastal
Skipper licence and is currently methodically working his way through the RYA training scheme. He enjoys being around boats, has a good understanding of them in general and is of course keen to get out on the water whenever he can. Maciek understands the pride we take over presenting our boats in the best possible manner and has adopted the same himself.
You may meet Magic at the end of your course!
