Portugal is a truly beautiful country and the Algarve in particular provides a perfect 150 Miles of superb and interesting sailing coastline. The year round climate is idyllic with temperatures averaging 30 deg C during the summer months and virtually no rain between April and the end of October. The climate is perfect for sail training as it is never too hot nor too cold to concentrate. With hardly any rain either, we confidently offer true - year round sailing options. As a bonus, the Atlantic provides a truly tidal condition with a range in tides of up to 4m.
The Algarve in particular is a superb cruising area in which to learn and enjoy. From the east to west there is a variety of challenging and rewarding places to visit. Highlights include the Portugese border - Vila Real de Santo Antonio giving rise to river cruising considerations, the picturesque anchorages of Tavira, Olhao and Faro, the modern marinas such as the renowned Vilamoura, the brand new development at Albufeira, another new marina at Portimao and the established favourite of the cruising yachtsmen, Marina de Lagos.
Further west still is the magnificent coastline leading up to the dramatic Cape St Vincent - sample the breathtaking scenery and get a taste of the Atlantic first hand before stopping for a rest, anchoring off the fishing village of Sagres ! Further afield there are adventures such a a river passage up to the Spanish town of Seville or perhaps an Atlantic hop up to the beautiful town of Sines. The options are endless. For yachtsmen wanting extended passages, the Canary Isles are within striking distance and would qualify as an Ocean passage or be a useful way of increasing mileage leading towards a qualification perhaps.
Lagos, home of our base marina, is a beautiful town situated on the far southwest of the Algarve. It can easily be reached by a 40 car journey minute or by a peaceful coastal train ride from Faro directly to the marina. Faro airport is easily accessible from the UK as it is the hub of most budget airlines. Lagos has an atmosphere of great cosmopolitan heritage coupled with a contemporary tourist industry. The marina itself is relatively new having been opened in 1994, it is both modern and inviting. The marina area is surrounded by the prestigious Marina Club complex and boasts a host of excellent bars and restaurants. Ideal to talk over the days adventures.
Apart from the sailing oportunities, Lagos can offer a whole host of other activities to try your hand at. For the even more adventurous, there is Dinghy Sailing, Surfing, Kite Surfing, Wind Surfing, Diving or Mountain Biking to try your hand at. Slightly more peaceful pastimes include sun bathing, swimming, beach sports such as Volleyball or just eating out and shopping. If you're still insistent on wanting more time at sea then there's always the Dolphin trips !!
